A Thinking Seminar

Themes

This is a month-long thinking and reading seminar on the lives and thoughts of select women philosophers from Southasia. The aim is to deliberate as a group on the thoughtful responses of these philosophers to their lived experiences, and on whether their reflections provide productive, and not to mention comparative, vantages for comprehending the dilemmas, doubts and resolutions in the contemporary world. In this edition, the following four (groups of) women philosophers have been chosen:

  • Karaikkal Ammaiyar (c. 6th CE Tamil),
  • Yeshe Choegyal (c. 8th CE Tibetan),
  • Lallesvari (c. 14th CE Kashmiri), and
  • Maibi Priestesses (c. 18th CE Manipuri)

In each of the three-sessions set, participants read the key texts (originals/translations) and share their thoughts, while the lead informs on the responses and provides historical and philosophical contexts, both in range and scale of similar texts.

The course has been designed for you, if you are sensitive and thinking, and specifically if you want to continue your learning after a gap, or restart your reflective journeys.
