About the Course
This course is an introduction to SiHP’s New Humanities Programme. It has been designed for enabling the participants to comprehend select contemporary topics as informed by historical and philosophical insights.
The programme on the humanities is new in the sense that it seeks to explore unconventional methods, subjects and disciplines while consolidating its core emancipatory ambitions.
In this edition, the course offers five modules on Society, Technology and Environment that are most relevant to Southasian populations and communities.
It is open to all Southasians and everyone else willing to understand the diverse subcontinent through historical sources and philosophical lineages but going beyond conventional dogmas and frameworks.
There will be five modules:
- Nature and Language
- Human and Machine Reasoning
- Economics and Its Alternatives
- Knowledge Transfer Models
- History, Theory and Philosophy
The course structure consists of 25 two-hour-long sessions. Pedagogically, each session will have texts, examples and cases for a mature discussion on complex ideas and experiences.
For the course, the term Southasia is broadly understood as a bio-geo-demographical region marked about the Hindukush and the Himalayas in the north and bounded by the Indian Ocean in the south. The term covers not only communities and populations within this wide area, but also animals, plants and the rest of the environment that makes it one of the most diverse, complex and crucial regions in the world.
The course –
- Will be informative to those keen on the disciplines of history and philosophy but had no occasion or opportunity in the past to pursue theoretical and practical aspects in any formal setting;
- Will prepare those interested to enrol into SiHP-KU’s MA (history and philosophy) programme in 2025;
- Will be useful for all undergraduates seeking admissions in graduate courses in Southasian history or philosophy anywhere in the world;
- Will enable professionals in any field to augment their expertise with historical and philosophical skills;
